today as i looked at postings on facebook--two were back to back. the top one shared a posting that AAA will provide a lift home on new year's eve/new year's day for those who should not/are not able to drive due to intoxication. right below that, a post was shared that was meant to inspire others to live life to it's fullest, to take chances, to be reckless at times and never regret just being carefree.
irony. well at least to me.
my brother, whom appeared to others on the "outer shell" of his life a responsible reckless man, was actually not responsible when it came to his own personal daily actions. here's the truth: he drank. he drank a lot. he drove after drinking a lot. he made stupid choices. did he drink to drown out his own anxieties and depression? probably.
as i read the two posts back to back, it screamed at me "tom". i can't imagine what life would be like if he was still here nor can't i imagine a different life now.
he needed balance. the balance between sobriety and reckless, carefree abandonment.
does that exist?
friends, take chances but weigh the risks.
