slowing it down

life has been busy this week, extra busy (stay tuned for that post when the time is right....), and tonight we slowed it down. the four of us headed to jack's school to play on the playground. there is something magical about chasing your children up and down playscapes, bouncing on the teeter-totter magigy thingy, flying high on the swings and just play letting loose. we stopped at charlies ice cream on the way home for a sweet treat on this gorgeous summer evening :) life is good.

grilled

i love grilled food. i would probably even eat a boot if it were grilled right!

on the menu tonight:
grilled chicken breasts (marinated italian/roasted red pepper/parmasean dressing mixed with a little bit of balsamic vinegar and red wine vinegar)
grilled broccoli (marinated in soy sauce, olive oil and garlic/wine seasoning--about 1/2 cup liquid to one head of broccoli)--on the top rack
grilled baked potatoes (started in microwave until soft--then finished on the grill)

did i mention i love grilled food? ;)

a success

took both boys, the dog and my fabulous mom in law to the flea market and thursday guy (awesome little out of the way find for antiques/cute stuff--let me know when you wanna visit him with me) SUCCESSFULLY! wooooo hooooooo. it was exhausting to have max but a good experience :)

epic fail.

tell me it gets easier. tell me that i will grow.

tonight was an epic fail. let me start by saying that the day in general has been tough. boys are boys and wanting to play. the weather has been cold and slightly rainy. my brain is stressed and wanting/needing to get hw done for grad class. all in all the day was fine but definitely not super smooth for me (which makes me feel bad since it was josh's birthday.....he worked so his mostly not aware of the stress involved in my day today due to dogs/boys/just me being me).

i have not been to see josh play softball this year. i was wanting to go especially bad since it is his birthday. boys love watching daddy and so we planned to catch the first of the double header. then i got the bright idea that max should go to. well then if max goes, of course elliot should go (neighbor dog that is living here this week). oh bad idea young puppy mama!

i cannot pin point any one thing that went wrong per say..... just all together it was stressful. elliot hates people he does not know and crowds...... well there were both tonight so that put him on edge and yippy. max was fine. boys wanted to play at danish kingdom....which i normally take them over to but this time i had not just one dog but TWO dogs. so against my better judgement, i take them over for just TWO slides....and the little friend isiah (3) wanted to go too....and i couldn't say no.... so three boys and two dogs walk over to the tall wooden structure known as a playscape and of course the minute they go in, i lose site of them and can't chase them since i have a VERY YIPPY unhappy elliot and a tiny max who does not know how to walk on a leash. stressful to not see my own two but to not see one that is not mine=way more stressful! then all these people (and odd ducks at that) come over and want to pet your dog..... is that what i have been like all these years!?!? why didn't anyone tell me?!? oh and on the way there, max takes a poo in the grass...and of course my poo bags are in the vehicle....and the keys are across the parking lot in my bag safe and sound and three kiddos and two dogs away. so i get jack across the parking lot safely, to get the keys, to get the bags, to scoop the poop, to put elliot in the car, to return the child that is not mine, to throw the poop away, to wash my hands, to fold up our lawn chairs, to untangle max, to shoe away two more children, to get my kids into the car and then unfortunately snap at josh (just a tiny bit) as he is trying to say goodbye so he can play ball.......... and this is the night that i built.

so if you are still reading, which i can't believe you are, i am sitting here smiling. just typing that ridiculous evening has put things in perspective! of course my first time out with the puppy would be a bit harder and of course i added more in. that would be like a first time mama taking out her little baby with a toddler that does not belong to her! what crazy woman would do that :)

so to make it better for me next time......
-poop bags IN my bag
-ask sis in law to watch dog (or sweet little isiah's mom) while i take the three boys to play
-do not take elliot, the anti social dog
-do continue to take max places so she is used to people and is friendly
-smile and not snap at my hubby

thanks for listening :)
