quick vick trip

visiting a good friend is amazing. it is relaxing. it is just like being with part of the family. the boys and i took a quick trip to vick's this week--just the three of us. it was a big step for me to drive us down :) i am proud of me and so glad we went--so much fun!!

oh we got pool time...lots and lots and lots of pool time! vick's sub has a very nice pool and in our two day stay, we went three times with the four boys :) OH SO MUCH FUN! i am so proud of jack for the growth he made while we were there--so MUCH MORE comfortable in the water!

we also made it to old navy for a FUN yet ABSOLUTELY crazy time of shopping, lunch at the daydream cafe for a super tasty caprese sandwich and just all around enjoyed each others company :) now that i had my "vick time" i need more!

lessons

jack, luke, kaden

swimming lessons at the club have started. it is our first attempt :) day 1...no instructor showed. day 2, boys learned the basics, practiced kicking, got their faces in the water, worked on alternating kicks and "same" kicks. boys had a great time. we ended with a trip to meijer for swim goggles and then el rancho for take out :) kaden loves being a part of our "family" and i love having him tag along :) what a great kiddo he is and a fun addition to our outings!

we got all gussied up for family pictures on saturday and i got a few pictures with my cell phone so i thought i would share :) we {boyer side} gave mom boyer a big family photo session with mindy larva for her birthday this year :) i can't wait to see the results!!

strawberries

we picked fresh strawberries at krup farms last week! mmmmmmmmmmmm so fresh and tasty :)

aunt sarah, owen, grandma, the boys, myself, kristin and her son noah all joined in on the fun!

double trouble

owen our sweet and adorable  16 month old nephew {yes i am biased but he is a doll} loves his cousin jack-o a LOT....both cousin jack-os..... he calls both jack and luke by the name jack-o :) SO DARN cute!

crisp

with oodles of strawberries to use up....... i am attempting my first strawberry {blueberry} crisp! i adapted my recipe from http://bakinandeggs.com/2011/04/22/strawberry-crisp/  partially because i did not have lemon juice and secondary because i wanted to add blueberries :) ....and you know that i do not measure anything so the gals measurements are not what i used :) (well i measure but only for specific things that need to rise, etc)


FOR THE BERRIES
3 cups strawberries and blueberries
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon apple juice
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch


FOR THE TOPPING
1 cup oats
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 stick butter, chilled and cut into small pieces....mine was frozen so i grated it mostly
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup pecans (i wish i had these in the house.....)

Directions:

Butter an 8 x 8 baking dish or small oval baker. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Mix together strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and cornstarch. Set aside.
Whisk together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in medium bowl. Add butter and mix in with your fingertips until mixture sticks together in clumps. Stir in oats and nuts.
Place strawberry mixture in prepared baking dish and crumble topping over. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until topping is browned and strawberries are bubbly.

all in a day....

day 1 summa time...... busy busy busy busy and whew and am i glad it is over! :) i forget how hard this transition is for me....working mom ends very drastically and quickly to stay at home summa time mama........

this week the goal is to figure out a better summa time routine :)

today went like this:
wake up in a frenzy. throw hair up. throw food in children's mouths. drew myself (kids already dressed.....thank goodness). brush three peeps teeth and get into car all in 39 minutes. WHEW!

doctor well child check for luke. good appt. 50th percentile weight. 75th for height. cdiff {knock on wood} is seemingly gone. he is gaining weight and doing well. might still have a sore bottom/frequent poops due to the med or just having that nasty infection.

eye doctor. order jack new "sport goggles" to try, make appt for luke, try on pretty glasses for me, and get jack's frames adjusted and a new pair ordered under warranty.

library to sign up for summer time reading! run into a friend i don't see enough. oggle over her adorable new baby and play peek a boo with her 2 year old. finally get kids signed up for reading fun. children play games while i snuggle baby. check out gobs of books.

all of that between 9:00 and 11:30......

the kids were amazing...until we hit meijer. sigh. why do i do that to myself!  we got in our grocery trip, but boys had to be separated.... a lot! got home and gave both boys alone time! and i took alone time :)

rest of day: run/walk with jack, amazing dinner of pork loin on the grill, cleaned out luke's entire room including sorting through all of his clothes and getting a donation bag for goodwill, reading, and just sitting :)

tomorrow will be better....okay so today was not bad :)

off to krup's tomorrow for strawberry picking!
